INDULGE YOURSELF - ITS NATIONAL PIZZA WEEKEND

This week sees the launch of a bid to create not only Britain’s most indulgent pizza but also the most expensive when a series of creations go up for auction via ebay.

Last year Domenico Crolla from Bella Napoli in Glasgow created a gold leaf pizza which smashed the world record price for a pizza when it sold on ebay for £2,150.   He even flew out to Italy to make up the pizza for the successful bidder!

And this year he says he is aiming to smash that figure with an indulgent creation that is simply mouth-watering which he has created in honour of Glasgow hero John Smeaton and which he is calling Heroes Pizza.

But he is not alone in trying to take the record to new heights.

Matching his endeavours is Clare Woods, Innovations Technologist at pizza manufacturer Stateside Food in Westhoughton, Lancashire. Her very indulgent Chorizo and Jamon Iberico Bellota Pizza is also up for sale to the highest bidder.

Also offering an opportunity to indulge yourself are Heavenly Pizzas in Scotland’s capital city, Edinburgh using Italian white truffle and truffle oil, with a gold leaf border. The winning bidder will have their medal shaped pizza made by one of the Edinburgh sportsman competing in the Commonwealth games in Glasgow. In addition the winner will also enjoy a 15 year old bottle of malt whiskey donated by Tullibardine Distillery. The Pizza will be shaped like a medal ‘Glasgow for Gold!’

And the pizza makers have agreed to make up their pizzas for the winning bidders and delivery it to them.

Marking National Pizza Weekend (November 16-18), all the money raised through the auction will go to the Fred Hollows Foundation which provides cateract operations for people in third world countries who have lost their sight.  Each £11 raised means that another person gets their sight back.

The auction will close on Sunday 18th November at 12 noon.
